What is Professional Teeth Whitening?
Teeth naturally darken as we age due to staining and discolouration, both on the surface and within the tooth. Several factors can contribute to this, such as consuming foods and drinks like coffee and red wine, smoking, and inconsistent oral hygiene habits.
Professional teeth whitening offers a safe, effective way to brighten your smile by lifting stains and enhancing the natural colour of your teeth. The treatment is straightforward, non-invasive, and delivers noticeable results.
At de Man & Höediono Dentistry, our team can help you decide if teeth whitening is the right option for your smile.
Treatment Options To Fit Your Lifestyle
Whiten Your Teeth, Your Way!
We’re here to help you achieve a whiter, brighter smile – on your terms. That’s why we offer two convenient options: in-office treatment with our dental team or a customized take-home kit. Whichever you choose, you’ll be one step closer to your new smile!
How Teeth Whitening Works
Our dentists use a peroxide-based gel in teeth whitening treatments. This gel is designed to penetrate the enamel of your teeth and break down stain molecules, which can result in a whiter, brighter-looking smile. The peroxide gel is non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and very safe to use when used as directed.
What are the Benefits of Teeth Whitening?
Your smile is often one of the first things people notice, and a brighter smile can significantly boost your confidence and self-esteem.
Moreover, having a beautiful smile can inspire you to take better care of it. A whiter smile may lead to improved oral health, which only enhances your already white smile and contributes to your overall health and well-being.

In-Office Teeth Whitening
If you're looking for a quick fix to brighten your smile, our clinic in Kitchener offers in-office teeth whitening treatment. This whitening treatment is safe and can effectively and efficiently brighten the colour of your teeth.
The process begins with a member of our team applying a barrier around your gums to protect them. Then, a thin layer of whitening gel is applied to each tooth. In total, the appointment should take about 30 minutes.
Personalized Take-Home Teeth Whitening
We also offer custom take-home trays. We'll take impressions of your teeth to create trays that fit precisely. Once they're ready, you'll use the trays along with a whitening gel to safely whiten your teeth at home.
You can wear the trays overnight or for 20–30 minutes during the day, usually over one to two weeks. After that, occasional touch-ups a few times a year help keep your smile bright.
Teeth Whitening FAQs
Read the answers to our most frequently asked questions about teeth whitening at de Man & Höediono Dentistry.
-
How long do the effects of teeth whitening last?
Whitening is not a permanent solution. Drinks like coffee and wine, along with pigmented foods like those containing turmeric, can stain your teeth over time.
Depending on your diet, the results of whitening may last longer for some than others. By keeping up with a good oral hygiene routine, you may only need a touch-up after about a year.
-
Does teeth whitening make teeth more sensitive?
Temporary tooth sensitivity is a common side effect of teeth whitening, but it typically subsides within a few days of treatment.
To reduce any discomfort, we recommend using an anti-sensitivity toothpaste both before and for at least two weeks after your whitening session.
-
Do teeth whitening products work on all stains?
Generally, brown and yellow stains respond well to teeth whitening treatments. However, some stains may not respond to whitening at all.
If achieving a brighter smile is important to you but your stains are resistant to whitening, your dentist may suggest alternative cosmetic options, such as dental crowns or veneers, which could be a better solution.
-
Does teeth whitening work on dental restorations?
Unfortunately, teeth whitening is only effective on natural teeth and will not work on existing dental restorations, such as fillings, crowns, or veneers.
If your treatment plan includes a dental restoration, it’s best to complete the teeth whitening process before receiving them so that they can be made to match the new shade of your natural teeth.
-
Will teeth whitening damage my tooth enamel?
When used as instructed and under the guidance of a qualified dentist, teeth whitening is highly unlikely to harm your dental enamel. Always check with your dentist to ensure you're using whitening products safely. If you experience any pain, sensitivity, or discomfort in your mouth following teeth whitening, let your dentist know immediately.
-
Does insurance cover the cost of teeth whitening?
Dental insurance does not typically cover the cost of teeth whitening.
